Debbie Parsons
OWNER / INSTRUCTOR
I’m Debbie Parsons. I’ve been teaching yoga since 2007 and have over 15,000 hours of teaching experience through yoga classes, workshops, special events, and teacher trainings. I started my teaching career with a strong focus on teaching to beginners. I had such a love for the practice and all of the gifts that it had brought to me, that it became a goal of mine to introduce yoga to as many people as I could. My students taught me so much from those initial years. While many people came to yoga for the stretching and moving of their bodies, what most people truly needed was simply a tool to get out of the stress and tension of their daily grind. It shaped me into becoming a teacher that focused less on the “doing” of the practice, into more of an “experience” of the practice. It was about guiding the student out of their head and into a space of calm and resilience that could be taken off their mat and into their lives.
My path in yoga started with my initial training that was influenced by Integral Yoga from the school of Sri Swami Satchidananda. I then connected to the gifts and benefits of deep intentional breathwork through my teacher Max Strom. Yoga Nidra was another practice I connected with and studied under the Master of Sri Amrit Desai. I then found my teacher that put all of these practices together with a deeper understanding of the philosophy and history of Yoga, Michael Carroll/Yoganand from the Kripalu Yoga lineage. Beyond the classical yogic approach, I have had intense studies and experiences in meditation led by Dr. Joe Dispenza. All of these teachers, and so many more, along with my own continued practice helped shape my approach to how I guide yoga.
My classes have been described as thoughtful and intentional. You’ll find that I like to use the body as a tool for mindfulness and the breath as the foundation of everything we do, allowing you to step out of your head and into a space of calm and peace. What ends up happening is that flexibility you thought you were coming for, actually becomes a side effect of the practice. The peace of mind and body then becomes the reason you keep coming back!
